Patrick Smith HR Ltd is a Nelson based human resources consultancy and was established in July 2009.
Managing Director, Patrick Smith has over 20 years experience in the human resources field. Prior to establishing his own consultancy Patrick worked in various HR roles for Sealord Group Limited, Australasia’s leading seafood company. For the last 10 years Patrick was the company’s HR Manager.
Patrick is a born and bred Nelsonian, raised in Collingwood, Golden Bay. He was educated locally and at Te Aute College in Hawkes Bay. He has a Bachelor of Business Studies (Human Resources Major) from Massey University and is a member of the Human Resources Institute of New Zealand (HRINZ).
Patrick is also affiliated to a number of South Island Iwi and has an extensive network in Maoridom. His Iwi affiliations are Te Atiawa, Rangitane, Ngati Apa and Ngai Tahu.
There are exciting regional development opportunities ahead for the Nelson/Marlborough region (Te Tau Ihu o te Waka a Maui) and Patrick wants to ensure organisations are supported with effective HR skills and expertise when considering their future growth and development strategies.
In his spare time Patrick enjoys rugby coaching. He has coached club and representative teams for a number of years.
Patrick believes there is a close link between human resources management and sports coaching. He explains that there is nothing more rewarding than seeing people grow and develop, regardless of being in the workplace or on the sports field. If you can take a group of people who are prepared to commit to the same values and goals, motivate and train them, who can then perform beyond what they thought they were capable of achieving; it is a powerful experience.
